Are you looking for the best 240hz monitor for gaming? Then we have just the thing for you! In our 240hz Monitor comparison we show you the best displays currently on the market.

Regardless of whether it is an inexpensive entry-level model or an expensive high-end beast – everyone will find something for their budget here. So that you can really see through the jungle of 240hz monitors, we have some detailed purchase advice below.

1. Samsung C27RG5

You get a real price killer with the Samsung C27RG5. The 27-inch monitor is also a rarity, as it combines 240 Hz with a curved VA panel. In addition, there is excellent contrast, G-Sync compatibility, precise colors and first-class gaming performance.

Despite the slightly higher input lag, everything is still within limits and you can enjoy your games with high frames, regardless of whether you want to reach the full 240 FPS. While this monitor is not as expensive as you might expect, you won’t be disappointed in terms of image quality. The VA panel of the monitor achieves a decent brightness of 300 nits and at the same time offers a high native contrast ratio, whereby colors and black tones come into their own.

Although the workmanship is impressive, you have to make a few compromises in terms of the price. For example, you don’t get any integrated speakers, no HDR support and the stand can only be tilted slightly (no height adjustment!).

If you are looking for an inexpensive curved monitor with 240hz and first-class image quality, you cannot ignore this colleague. As long as a few milliseconds during the input lag do not bother you (which you will not notice in-game anyway, unless you are a CS professional) and if you can live with the non-adjustable stand.

2. AOC AGON AG251FZ

For those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a 240hz monitor, the Agon AG251FZ from AOC is also worth a look. The AG251FZ is a 24.5 inch TN-LCD gaming monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. In addition to the refresh rate of 240 Hz, the less impressive contrast of 1000: 1 (normal for a TN panel) and the good maximum brightness of 400 nits. Nevertheless, due to its excellent motion handling, it is a good alternative to the cheaper Samsung model from above.

On top of that, the screen offers a more solid stand than the Samsung and offers a variety of tilt, height, swivel and rotate settings. The processing quality and the materials used can also convince and everything feels valuable. In addition, there are practical features such as built-in speakers, lots of connection ports (even a 1x VGA), an included remote control and a headset holder on the side.

In terms of image quality, however, it has to give up a bit in terms of color accuracy and contrast, but that’s still within limits for a TN monitor. The situation is different when it comes to gaming performance: Using overdrive mode (adjustable via OSD), the AG251FZ impresses with lightning-fast response times and virtually no input lag. This gives you a gaming experience without tearing and with a razor-sharp image.

So if you are looking for a fast and affordable 240hz monitor for competitive gaming, you can’t go wrong with this.

3. SUS TUF Gaming VG279QM

The TUF Gaming VG279QM is our absolute price-performance recommendation. Because here you get everything: A very good IPS panel, sensational gaming performance with excellent response times, as well as many useful gaming features. The VG279QM could also be called the best 27-inch 240 Hz monitor, because with its overall package it is almost unbeatable for the price.

The processing quality is also impressive: everything is solid, there are all common adjustment options (even portrait format) and its subtle gamer design is not too intrusive. In addition, the display is bright enough to avoid reflections and glare in very bright surroundings. In addition, there are the large viewing angles, which is ideal for co-op games at home in the LAN. Unfortunately, due to its mediocre contrast ratio, black tones look like gray, so that the monitor is not the best choice for extremely dark scenes.

In addition, this monitor is characterized by a very good display of fast moving images. Thanks to the excellent response time, there is no blurring of fast-moving objects and the BFI technology further improves the clarity of the image. In addition, the native refresh rate can be overclocked from 240 Hz to 280 Hz to make everything even smoother. There is also FreeSync native and G-SYNC compatibility and the input lag is extremely low.

Nice delicacies like HDR10, an FPS counter and USB 3.0 complete everything. Anyone who still has doubts about this cannot be helped. This model is for sure the best 240hz monitor for most of you.

4. SAMSUNG 32-inch Odyssey G7

The Samsung Odyssey G7 is one of the few 240hz monitors that offers you a VA panel. In addition, it is simpler, extremely versatile and offers you optimal image quality for all purposes.

With its fast refresh rate and excellent response time, you get a perfect gaming experience – no matter what game. It supports FreeSync and is also certified by NVIDIA as G-SYNC compatible, which means you are very flexible.

The image quality is very good, as you get an excellent contrast ratio (almost 4000: 1), high color accuracy and an excellent color gamut – all without fumbling around with the settings. Unfortunately, the G7 has narrow viewing angles due to its VA panel, so you quickly lose image accuracy when looking at it from the side. Also, keep the 1000R curvature in mind, especially since that’s not for everyone.

With the ergonomic functions you get everything, but unfortunately pivoting (-15 ° to 15 °) and tilting (-15 ° to 5 °) are somewhat limited in the angle. There is also a VESA bracket, RGB lighting and very good workmanship. It also offers additional functions such as picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes as well as BFI.

He can also score points when it comes to dealing with reflections, HDR performance and text clarity. So all in all an extremely good 240hz monitor, if it weren’t for the high price. However, if you can afford it, you will not be disappointed.

240hz Monitors: Things to keep in mind

If you are an ambitious gamer who does everything to win and really wants to have all the advantages over your opponents, then a new 240 Hz monitor could actually be something for you.

But is that ultra-fast refresh rate really what you need? And if so, what should you watch out for?

Is 240hz worthwhile compared to 144hz?

We say: Definitely for fast, competitive gaming such as multiplayer first-person shooters.

However, the difference between 240hz and 144hz is not too big, which is why 240hz monitors are more worthwhile for (budding) professionals and eSports. The extra charge is often less worthwhile for casual gaming or office use.

The more Hertz your monitor has, the more frames it can display per second. With a 144hz monitor you get 2.4 frames per second, with a 240hz monitor that’s 4 frames per second. This makes the picture appear sharper, especially in very fast games, and the gameplay feels smoother (you notice it especially when you turn the mouse quickly in shooters like Overwatch, Apex or CS).

As we said, the difference is nowhere near as noticeable as with a 60hz monitor, but still not to be despised.

Since there is now a 240hz refresh rate on good IPS and VA panels, you are no longer limited to TN panels. But remember: the actual FPS displayed depends on more than just your monitor.

What hardware do I need for a 240hz monitor?

There are no specific hardware requirements for 240hz monitors. The only thing you need is an HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 connection on your PC. If you have that, you can use a 240 Hz monitor – regardless of which graphics card you are using (even if you only have an integrated GPU).

BUT: That doesn’t mean you can get 240 FPS just because of the monitor. Because the monitor does not increase your frame rate, it only updates itself 240 times per second, regardless of what is displayed on the screen.

What kind of PC do I need for 240hz?

If your PC cannot consistently achieve 240 FPS (or at least 190+) in your desired game, a 240hz monitor is not worthwhile for you. You can use it, but not benefit from the advantages.

So you need at least a GTX 1080 (better RTX 2080) or an RX 5700 XT. For G-Sync you will not be able to tear much under a 1080 Ti or RTX 2080 Super, of course a corresponding CPU to avoid bottlenecking.

What are the advantages of 240hz monitors?

We already mentioned it briefly above, but here again in more detail with examples. Essentially, 240hz monitors have a couple of great advantages:

  1. The gameplay generally feels faster and smoother
  2. With shooters, turning left or right will no longer have a tear (especially with flickshots)
  3. Tracking a moving target with the crosshair becomes easier
  4. You potentially have the chance to react faster in fast-paced multiplayer games
  5. Motion blur effects virtually no longer occur

While these advantages are undisputed, there are still some significant disadvantages with 240 Hz monitors.

What are the disadvantages of 240hz monitors?

Just like 144 Hz monitors, 240 Hz monitors have to make some compromises to achieve such high refresh rates. The disadvantages can be summarized as follows:

  1. One disadvantage is that many current 240 Hz monitors are still based on TN panels. These panels are often used in gaming monitors because they are cheaper and faster than other LCD panels. In contrast to IPS or VA panels, they offer limited visual quality (colors, contrast and viewing angles)
  2. You also need a very strong system so that you can even benefit from the 240hz. Without a fast GPU with a good CPU, nothing works.
  3. 240hz monitors are often still relatively expensive and you are swapping features such as resolution and screen size for a higher refresh rate.
  4. The decreasing marginal utility: The higher the frame rates, the more difficult it is for the human eye to notice a difference. Between 30 and 40 FPS everyone can tell the difference, but between 144 and 240 it gets a lot harder.
